Upper Rio Grande Animal Society
Our Mission
The Upper Rio Grande Animal Society Conour Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing a safe environment for the care of animals in need and the prevention of cruelty. We pledge to nourish the relationship between companion animals and humans through education, advocacy, and direct support.
Who We Are
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Monte Vista, Colorado, we serve as a vital resource for the entire San Luis Valley. With only two other dog shelters in our 125-mile-long region, we are committed to providing care for dogs that arrive from every corner of the valley, each with their own unique story.
Our Care Model
We are an all-volunteer board operating a compassionate shelter environment that houses more than 30 dogs on any given day. Our facility, supported by a dedicated team of employees and volunteers, provides essential medical treatment, food, and security. We also rely on the incredible help of fosters who provide a temporary, stress-free home, which allows our dogs to truly shine and prepare for their forever families.
Your Role in Their Journey
We believe that every dog has a special personality waiting to be discovered by the right person. Whether you are looking to adopt or can open your home as a foster, you are providing a second chance that makes a life-changing difference. Our team is here to support you in finding a companion who will thrive in your life and become a cherished member of your family.
