At Journey Home Animal Care Center, we are dedicated to strengthening the human-animal bond through compassion and education. We proudly serve the Colorado River Valley, providing care for over 1,500 lost, ill, injured, or orphaned animals each year.
Our roots are in the community. Originally a 30-year-old facility, our shelter was saved from closure in 1998 by a dedicated group of volunteers who rallied to renovate the space. This grassroots effort eventually led to the formation of the Garfield County Animal Welfare Foundation, allowing us to expand our reach and provide medical care to every animal in our care.
We are a proud Socially Conscious and Fear Free shelter partner, prioritizing the emotional well-being and enrichment of every animal. Our dedicated team provides a variety of services, including a veterinary clinic for spay/neuter and vaccinations, foster placement for those needing extra care, and community resources to help pets stay in their forever homes. Every dog and cat in our care is altered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before being adopted.
Adopting is a life-changing decision, and our staff is thrilled to help you find the ideal friend for your family and lifestyle. We believe in thoughtful matching, which is why we encourage families to meet their potential new companions and bring existing dogs to the shelter for a 'meet and greet.' We provide comprehensive information on every animal's history and personality to ensure a successful, joyful transition.
We invite you to make your mark by browsing our adoptable animals, volunteering your time, or supporting our mission through donations. Whether you are looking to adopt or simply want to stay involved, we would love to hear from you. Visit us in Rifle or reach out to start your own adoption story today!
