Dog Star Rescue
Our Mission
Dog Star Rescue is a dedicated, 100% volunteer-run organization committed to placing stray, abandoned, and surrendered dogs of all breeds into qualified, caring, and lifelong homes. We believe every dog deserves a second chance at happiness and work tirelessly to make that happen.
Why We Rescue
Named after Sirius, the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major, we strive to be a guiding light for dogs in need of a safe passage to a better life. As a non-profit based in the Hartford, CT area, we have successfully placed over 8,000 dogs into loving families over the last decade. We address a critical need by taking in local owner-surrenders and partnering with shelters across the country to save dogs who have lost their way.
How We Help
We are a foster-based rescue, which allows us to provide dogs with the medical, behavioral, and emotional care they need in a home environment before they are adopted. Because we are powered entirely by over 300 unpaid volunteers, your support directly funds the life-saving vetting, vaccinations, and transport necessary to prepare our dogs for their new beginnings. It truly takes a village, and we are incredibly proud of the community that makes this work possible.
Your Role as an Adopter
We believe that successful adoption is built on thoughtful matchmaking that balances a family's lifestyle with the individual needs of each dog. Our screening process is designed to ensure the best possible fit for both you and your new companion. We invite you to be part of this rewarding journey, knowing that each adoption creates space for us to rescue another dog in need.
Start Your Journey
Ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our adoptable dogs online or join us at one of our weekly adoption events across Connecticut. Please visit our website to complete an application and take the first step toward your own happily ever after.

10/14 - 🐾 Meet Novak — a gentleman who knows how to enjoy the good things in life. At 9 years old, this handsome German Shepherd mix has a lot of love and companionship to offer. He gets around confidently on three legs, enjoys a leisurely walk, and is just as happy settling in for a well-earned nap on the sofa. Novak is currently with @dogstarrescue in Connecticut, looking for a home where he can enjoy his golden years with someone special. 💜 His easygoing, loyal spirit inspired our Field Companion Custom Camp Mug — a vintage-inspired, two-sided design featuring your own pet's photos and name. ☕ 50% of profits support Dog Star Rescue, helping dogs like Novak while they wait for their families. Interested in adopting? Visit dogstarrescue.org to learn more about Novak and the adoption process. Can't adopt? You can still help through Paw It Forward. #PawItForward #DogStarRescue #SeniorDogAdoption #Tripawd #CustomPetGifts
