Dog Star Rescue is dedicated to saving stray, abandoned, shelter, and owner-surrendered dogs of all breeds and ages by placing them into qualified, caring, lifelong homes. We strive to be a guiding light for these animals, ensuring they find the safe passage they deserve to a new life with a loving family.
Based in the Hartford, CT area, we are a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organization that has successfully placed over 8,000 dogs into forever homes over the last decade. The name Dog Star comes from Sirius, the brightest star in the Canis Major constellation, symbolizing our commitment to lead our dogs toward a brighter future. We take in local surrenders and work closely with partner shelters across the South to save loyal, loving dogs who have lost their way.
We operate as a foster-based rescue, which allows us to provide essential medical, behavioral, and emotional care in a home environment before a dog is adopted. Our team of 300 dedicated volunteers works tirelessly to guide every dog through this transition. By relying on our extensive foster network, we are able to manage our resources effectively and ensure each dog receives the individual attention they need to thrive.
Adoption is a joyful journey, and our priority is making the best match between your family and a new companion. We believe in transparency and education, working closely with you to understand your lifestyle, preferences, and expectations. By balancing the unique needs of our dogs with the right family environment, we ensure a successful and lasting bond for years to come.
We invite you to join our mission by exploring our currently adoptable dogs or attending one of our weekly adoption events in Connecticut. Whether you choose to adopt, foster, or donate to support our life-saving work, you are making a profound difference. Together, we can continue to make the impossible possible for rescue dogs every day.
