Founded in 1893, The Meriden Humane Society is a dedicated non-profit, no-kill animal shelter committed to rescuing cats and dogs throughout Connecticut. We believe that every animal deserves a second chance and a loving home where they can thrive.
For over 130 years, our organization has served as a sanctuary for animals in need. We are a privately run, independent facility that relies entirely on the generosity of our community members, as we receive no state or federal funding to support our lifesaving work.
Our dedicated team and volunteers provide round-the-clock care 365 days a year for the animals in our shelter. We also rely on a vital network of foster families to support animals who are pregnant, nursing, recovering from medical conditions, or seniors needing a gentle retirement environment.
Volunteers don't just find homes for rescue animals; they create families. We focus on mindful, supportive matches to ensure that each feline or canine companion finds their perfect forever home, fostering joyful partnerships between our animals and their new people.
We invite you to explore our list of adoptable pets or visit us to learn more about our current residents. Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in fostering, or looking to volunteer your time, your support helps us continue providing the care our animals need and deserve.
