Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue (ROAR)

Our Mission

The Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) is dedicated to providing animals in need with the same love, care, and compassion we show our own family pets. We strive to create a society where animals are valued, honored, and given a true second chance at a happy life.

A Legacy of Compassion

Founded in 2000 by Marcia Libby and a dedicated group of volunteers, ROAR began as a grassroots effort to support animals at the Ridgefield Animal Shelter. Since opening our doors to the Donofrio Family Animal Shelter in 2005, we have been a proud lifeline for over 6,000 cats and dogs. Our journey is defined by community partnership, from our early work in local schools to the expansion of our facilities to provide a warmer, more welcoming haven.

How We Care

At the Donofrio Family Animal Shelter, our mission is driven by the 5 Freedoms: ensuring every animal under our care is free from hunger, discomfort, pain, fear, and is able to express natural, healthy behaviors. Our team of staff and volunteers provides top-tier veterinary care, high-quality nutrition, and daily enrichment. Whether through our foster program or our shelter environment, we work tirelessly to prepare every pet for their next chapter.

The Joy of Adopting

Adoption is one of the most rewarding journeys you can embark upon, and we are committed to making it a successful experience for both you and your new companion. We take the time to learn each animal's unique personality to ensure a thoughtful, lasting match for your family. Bringing a new pet home is a beautiful commitment, and we are honored to help you find your new best friend.

Join Our Journey

We invite you to visit our shelter at 45 South Street or browse our current adoptable pets online to find your perfect match. Every visit or appointment brings us closer to our goal of finding every animal a loving, forever home. We look forward to meeting you soon!

5/21 - Greenwich 8th Grade Capstone Project Highlights Benefits of Pet Rescue

If you are not currently in a position to bring a pet into your home, you can still play a vital role in contributing to these wonderful organizations. Consider reaching out to these shelters to discuss temporary fostering opportunities, which get animals out of kennels and into a home environment. Additionally, these nonprofits rely entirely on financial donations, volunteer kennel assistance, and supplies from their public wish lists to keep their doors open. – Ava Caroll
