Our Mission
Whiskers Pet Rescue is a dedicated no-kill, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Southbury, Connecticut, committed to the welfare of cats and kittens in our local community. We believe that every cat matters, and we are devoted to giving each one the compassionate care they deserve and the second chance they need.
Why We Serve
We focus on helping cats and kittens who have been abandoned, injured, abused, or neglected in our local area. As an organization that operates without government funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters through donations, events, and adoption fees to provide these animals with a safe, stable environment.

Our passionate team of volunteers and staff works tirelessly to rescue and care for hundreds of cats and kittens each year at our Southbury shelter. Because we strive to ensure the perfect match for every household, we utilize a thoughtful application and approval process designed to support successful, long-term adoptions. We encourage potential adopters to get pre-approved online, which allows for a smoother, more personalized appointment to meet our wonderful available kitties.

10/16 - Otie is our lovable awkward friend in cat form — the one who really wants to hang out but isn’t always sure how to handle all those big feelings. He’ll lean in for attention, then suddenly remember he’s shy and do a tiny “oops” nip… followed immediately by the feline equivalent of apologizing and overthinking it for the next 20 minutes. If you understand socially awkward buddies who need affection on their own terms, you’ll understand Otie. And you’ll adore him ❤️

10/11 - Who's behind the door at Whiskers? 🤔 "It's me, Hex!" "I've been waiting at the shelter since May - yep, you heard that right - May! Now, you could say it's my season...ya know, being a black cat and all, but I'm not so sure if October will be just another month that will come and go. I'm so grateful for the safety, care and love I receive here at the shelter, but I want a family! I'd much rather be observing the beauty and magic of the season from the window of my home - with YOU! Maybe with the window open or cracked just a bit on the chilly days! Anyway, I'm 5-years-old, and I have medium hair. I'm neutered, vaccinated, fully vetted and ready to be your one and only! I'm not a fan of dogs, other cats or very young children - but, hey, a cat's entitled to his preferences, right? It will be a treat to focus on me! Please come in and meet me - I'd love to meet you. 10/3 - Remember the mom & 4 kittens we took in from VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center where they had been brought in the night before?? We named mom Melody, and the kittens are Harmony, Lyric, Tempo & Brio. This is their first update! They are doing great in a wonderful foster home!

10/3 - I’m Zeke, and I’m so, so sad…I've been here since FEBRUARY!! No one ever chooses me, and I don’t understand why. I try so hard to be cute, hoping someone will fall in love with me… but still, they don’t choose me. 💔 I’m only 2 years old, and I’m such a sweet, affectionate boy with so much love to give. I just want someone to love me back. My specialty? Kitty kisses! Those little scratchy kisses that every cat lover knows and adores. I’ve been saving so many for my very own person. 💕 I need a home where I can be your only pet, with no small children.
