Our Mission
The Little Guild is dedicated to strengthening the loving bonds between people and pets in our communities. We exist to rescue and nurture homeless dogs and cats, ensuring they find their way into safe, caring, and permanent homes.
Our Story
Founded in 1960 by Muriel Alvord Ward and Eleanora Kleinschmidt, we are the only limited-admission shelter in northwest Connecticut. For over six decades, we have remained committed to providing a compassionate sanctuary for animals in need of a second chance.
How We Care
As a limited-admission organization, we prioritize the preservation of life, maintaining a save rate that consistently averages over 97%. Every resident receives individualized attention, including medical care, temperament testing, and professional enrichment programs designed by our experienced dog trainer. We believe in nurturing the whole animal through playgroups, socialization, and a dedicated foster network that helps prepare our guests for their future families.
