Halifax Humane Society Inc

Our Mission

Halifax Humane Society exists to champion pets and empower their people. We believe in a world where every pet and family can live their best, healthiest, and happiest lives together.

A Legacy of Compassion

Since 1937, we have served the Daytona Beach area and Volusia County with a commitment to kindness. For nearly 90 years, our organization has evolved from a local shelter into a community lifeline, providing essential support to keep pets and families united.

Our Commitment to Care

As an open-admission organization, we provide lifesaving shelter, veterinary services, and behavioral support for animals in need. We are proud to prioritize a pleasant, friendly environment where our animals learn valuable manners and social skills through our Open Paw training program, ensuring they are ready to thrive in your home.

Finding Your Perfect Match

Adoption is a joyful beginning, and we are here to help you find your new best friend. Our adoption counselors work with you to ensure a thoughtful match, and our Lohman Pet Adoption Center offers comfortable spaces for you to bond with potential companions. Whether you are looking for a dog, cat, or critter, every animal we offer is spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped.

Join Our Story

There are many ways to be a part of our future, from adopting a pet to volunteering your time. We invite you to visit our campus on LPGA Blvd, browse our current list of available animals online, or join us for a community event. Together, we can write the next chapter of a community where pets and people truly belong together.

9/21 - Our dogs eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner from stuffed KONGs. Why? 🐾 A bored dog in a kennel does not just sit quietly and wait. Dogs, like people, need something to do. If we do not give them an appropriate outlet, they will find their own by barking, digging at the kennel, chewing their bedding, or working themselves into a frantic state that can make them appear far less adoptable than they really are. That is what a stuffed KONG helps solve. When we soak part of a dog’s daily food ration, pack it into a hollow toy, and hand it over, we are giving that dog a long, engaging, and self-rewarding project. Every bit of effort they put into working the toy pays off with a piece of food. This means the dog is not simply occupied. They are actively learning to prefer the toy over anything else in the kennel. That preference is the real win. A dog who spends their shelter stay loving their KONG can go home already knowing that chew toys, not the couch, shoes, or baseboards, are the best things to gnaw on. That is a huge part of helping a dog succeed in their new home instead of being returned to the shelter. Freezing a stuffed KONG makes the activity last even longer while soothing the dog’s teeth and gums. That is why you will often see them waiting in the freezer before they are delivered to the kennels! 🧊🐶 Three stuffed KONGs each day provide more than meals. They offer enrichment, encourage healthy choices, reduce kennel boredom, and help prepare our dogs for success in loving homes. #OpenPaw #KONGEnrichment #ShelterEnrichment #DogTraining #HalifaxHumaneSociety
