Our Mission
The Panhandle Animal Welfare Society is a dedicated, private nonprofit organization striving to improve animal welfare through essential resources, community education, and compassionate programs. We work every day to ensure that the abandoned are protected, the hungry are fed, and the injured receive the care they deserve.
Our History
Since our incorporation in 1976, we have proudly served Northwest Florida with a deep commitment to animal care and control. Originally beginning in a small facility in Valparaiso, we have grown over the decades to serve more than 160,000 residents in Okaloosa County and the surrounding communities.
Our Care Model
PAWS operates a comprehensive facility in Fort Walton Beach where our Humane Services Division oversees the medical and daily care of every animal in our adoption center. We are unique in the state of Florida for managing both animal control services and a shelter facility, allowing us to provide direct, hands-on rehabilitation, vaccinations, and recovery for animals in need. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to prepare each pet for their future journey into a loving home.
