Save Our Cats and Kittens
Our Mission
Save Our Cats and Kittens (SOCKS) is a limited intake, free-roaming shelter dedicated to helping felines through adoption, expert medical care, and community education. We strive to enhance the well-being of every cat we serve to create a future where every feline is safe and supported.
Our Story
Founded in 1993 by local teacher Sara DeMonbrun, our organization began as a compassionate response to the stray cats in her own neighborhood. Named in honor of the famous White House resident Socks Clinton, our mission grew from a simple home-based rescue to a dedicated facility in Fort Walton Beach, helping cats throughout Okaloosa, Walton, and Santa Rosa counties.
How We Operate
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we provide a safe, free-roaming refuge for cats who are homeless due to life transitions, illness, or owner displacement. We address feline overpopulation by spaying or neutering every cat we adopt out and leading targeted sterilization efforts for community cat colonies. Our work is powered by the generosity of our supporters and our dedicated team of volunteers.
Your Partner in Adoption
We pride ourselves on pairing the perfect cat with its ideal human companion. Our experienced team provides personalized guidance, ensuring you find a furry friend whose personality and needs align with your lifestyle. Whether you are seeking a playful kitten or a wise adult cat, we are here to support your journey to building a loving, permanent home.
