Brevard Humane Society - Merritt Island Adoption Center
Our Mission
The Brevard Humane Society is dedicated to providing animal welfare shelters and programs that foster a humane ethic toward all animals. We strive to connect compassionate people with homeless companion animals to create loving, permanent relationships.
A Legacy of Compassion
Since 1952, we have served as the community's leading advocate for homeless, displaced, and abandoned animals. What began as a small shelter founded by a group of volunteers has grown into one of Brevard’s largest independent, non-profit animal welfare organizations.
Our Care Model
We believe every animal deserves a safe and loving home, which is why we provide shelter, veterinary care, and plenty of love until they find their furever family. As a leader in the community, we operate under an adoption guarantee, ensuring no animal in our care is ever euthanized due to space, time, or treatable medical conditions.
Building Lifelong Bonds
Adoption is a joyful journey, and our dedicated team is here to help you find the perfect partner for your lifestyle. We encourage families to visit our Merritt Island or Cocoa adoption centers to interact with our animals and find that special connection. We believe that when you adopt, you are not just giving a pet a second chance, but enriching your own life with unconditional love and companionship.
Get Involved Today
We invite you to experience the rewarding process of adoption by visiting our Merritt Island Adoption Center, open seven days a week. You can also view our adoptable dogs, cats, and small pets online to start your journey today. Whether you choose to adopt, volunteer, or support our mission, you are helping us create a better community for all.

9/26 - We had the best day at Subaru of Melbourne! Five of our shelter pups came along, hoping to meet the people they’ve been waiting for. We’re so grateful to @subaruofmelbourne for continuing to show up for our shelter pets and helping us give them more chances to find their forever families. And did you see our freshly painted Adoption Mobile?!😍 A huge thank-you to @abstractdissent for giving it such a beautiful new look! Missed this one? No worries! We’ll be back at Subaru for more adoption events in October, November, and December. We’ll see you there! 🐾
