Safe Animal Shelter is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to reduce the number of cats and dogs euthanized in Clay County and the surrounding Northeast Florida areas. We strive for a community where all companion animals are treated with compassion and find their way into loving, forever homes.
Founded in 1991, we have the honor of being Clay County’s first no-kill shelter. For decades, our team has provided a safe haven for thousands of homeless pets, working tirelessly to ensure every animal in our care receives the dignity and respect they deserve.
We believe in providing the best possible start for every animal, which is why all our rescues receive food, shelter, socialization, and quality medical treatment, including spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations. Our shelter operates with transparency, supported by the generosity of our community, grants, and dedicated volunteers. Through our foster care program, we are also able to provide specialized attention and recovery space for animals who need a little extra TLC before finding their perfect match.
Adoption is a lifelong partnership, and our team is here to help you find a companion that fits perfectly into your lifestyle. We prioritize thoughtful matches to ensure a happy, humane life for both the pet and your family. Because we want every adoption to be successful, our counselors are always ready to guide you through the transition and answer your questions.
We invite you to visit our shelter in Middleburg to meet our wonderful, adoptable cats and dogs in person. Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to support our mission, we are excited to welcome you into our community of animal lovers. Come by today and help us save a life!
