Animal Refuge Center
Our Mission
The Animal Refuge Center is dedicated to providing a safe, no-kill sanctuary for homeless cats and dogs. We believe every animal deserves a loving, forever home where they can thrive and feel secure.
Our Story
Founded in 1987 as an alternative to euthanasia for healthy, unwanted animals in Lee County, we have grown into the largest no-kill shelter and sanctuary in Florida. Since 1991, our beautiful 22-acre campus in North Fort Myers has served as a haven for pets in need, supported by a committed community of donors and volunteers.
Our Care Model
We operate as a true sanctuary, providing extensive care for our residents across 10 feline cottages and 39 air-conditioned dog lodges. Our facility is more than just a shelter; it is an environment designed for physical and mental health, featuring specialized canine training centers and behavior programs to help every pet become adoptable and sociable.
Building Lifelong Bonds
Our adoption process is not first-come, first-served because we prioritize finding the best match for both you and the animal. By taking into account the unique needs of each resident and the lifestyle of our applicants, we ensure a successful and joyful transition for your new family member.
Start Your Journey
We invite you to experience the warmth of our community and meet our residents by appointment. Please visit our website to view our available cats and dogs, complete an adoption application, or learn how you can become a part of our life-saving mission as a volunteer or member.
