Flagler Humane Society

Our Mission

At Flagler Humane Society, our mission is to transform the lives of animals through compassionate care and services, outstanding educational programs, and advocacy for all animals. We are dedicated to creating a community that values, nurtures, and protects every animal in our care.

Our History and Community

Since 1982, we have served as a cornerstone of animal welfare in Flagler County. As the only animal shelter in the area, we provide a safe haven for homeless, abandoned, and stray animals across Palm Coast, Bunnell, Flagler Beach, and beyond.

Our Approach to Care

We pride ourselves on providing a high standard of care for every resident. By utilizing a blend of shelter services and foster opportunities, we work to ensure that animals have the support they need while they wait for their new families. Our dedicated staff and volunteers focus on enrichment and medical care to keep every pet healthy and happy during their stay.

A Joyful Partnership

We believe that adoption is the start of a beautiful friendship, which is why we practice open adoptions. Instead of relying on rigid, exclusionary requirements, we focus on having thoughtful, judgment-free conversations to help you find the perfect companion. Our team is here to support you and your new pet, ensuring a stable and loving match that lasts a lifetime.

Join Our Mission

Whether you are looking to bring home a new best friend or want to support our ongoing efforts, we invite you to be part of our success. Visit us at our shelter in Palm Coast to meet our adoptable pets in person, or explore our website to see how you can help us continue our work. Together, we can create a more humane future for the animals who need us most.

County commissioners remain skeptical about the financial viability of the proposal. A door was opened for the Sheriff's Office to considers taking over enforcement, too.

10/11 - 🐾 This week, we needed some extra help in the cattery, and our volunteers answered the call. ❤️ They spent time socializing with our cats, giving them attention, talking to them, playing with them, and simply being there. And let us tell you… the cats loved every minute of it. For a shelter animal, even a little one-on-one attention can make a big difference. You might spend just part of your day with them, but for that cat, you made their whole day better. Thank you to everyone who came to help. We appreciate your time, patience, and love for the animals who need it most. 🐱 Would you like to make a difference too? Whether you want to walk a dog, spend time with cats, or help wherever you’re needed, we’d love to welcome you to our volunteer family. 10/10 - 🐾 Staff Pick of the Week: Eclipse! 💙 This week, Carmen has chosen Eclipse. He’s a handsome 18-year-old cat who’s ready for a cozy couch and a loving home. Eclipse has a beautiful cream-and-white coat and striking blue eyes. He’s healthy and has a sweet personality to match. He loves being petted and starts purring as soon as you give him attention. When he was out in the hallway, he didn’t mind being around other cats. At 18 years old, Eclipse has lots of love to give. He may not be a kitten, but he’s got everything you’d want in a companion: a gentle nature, a love for affection, and plenty of purrs. As Carmen put it, Eclipse deserves a comfy couch and to spend his golden years surrounded by love. We couldn’t agree more. Please come meet Eclipse at Flagler Humane Society. Give this sweet senior cat the chance to enjoy the comfort, security, and love of a forever home. He’s been waiting for someone to notice how special he is. Maybe that someone is you. 📍 Flagler Humane Society 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast, FL Please share to help Eclipse find his forever couch! 🐾 #StaffPickOfTheWeek #AdoptASeniorCat #AdoptDontShop

10/3 - 💟 Staff Pick of the Week: Ghoul This week, Jessica, who cares for our animals in the kennels at the Flagler Humane Society, has chosen a very special boy as her Staff Pick: Ghoul. Ghoul is a handsome 2-year-old, 80-pound Dogo Argentino mix. His story started with heartbreak. On August 8, he was found abandoned and tied up to one of the trees on our property. Jessica untied him and brought him to safety. When he arrived, he was severely emaciated at just 64 pounds and clearly not feeling well. Now, he is a completely different dog. After getting the meals and care he desperately needed, he is back to a healthy 80 pounds and doing well. He loves food, especially meat treats, and hasn't stopped eating since we took him in. Ghoul is very loving and affectionate. When you step into his kennel, he will roll over right away to ask for belly rubs. He enjoys adventures, knows the "sit" command, and is very smart. Ghoul is a strong dog and needs a home with lots of space to run and play. He is looking for someone with experience with similar breeds who understands the need for training, structure, and responsible care. Jessica says he should go to a home without other dogs, since he likes having all the attention. Someone once decided Ghoul was worth leaving behind. We are hoping someone else will look at him and decide he is worth never giving up on. 🚨Reminder: Ghoul’s story is a tough reminder of something important to our team. If you are having a hard time, please reach out. We will always do our best to help you keep your pet. If you cannot keep your pet, please bring them to us in person. By filling out a surrender form and talking with our staff, you help us learn about your pet’s unique character, habits, and needs. This information is vital for finding them the right new family. Please never abandon an animal on our property. Please visit the Flagler Humane Society to meet Ghoul, take him for a walk, and see if he could be the loyal friend you've been looking for. We are located at 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast, FL. #doginstagram #dogs #doglover #adoptdontshop🐾

10/1 - A heartfelt thank you to Father Jim May for visiting Flagler Humane Society to bless every one of our shelter animals! 🐾 Every cat, every dog, and yes, even our adoptable pig received a special blessing. Each animal here is waiting for a family of their own, and we're so grateful they got this moment of love and care along the way. We were also thrilled to see many of you bring your own pets to be blessed. Thank you for sharing the day with us and showing how much our community cares about animals. Thank you, Father Jim, for your kindness and for being part of our shelter family. 💛 #FlaglerHumaneSociety #BlessingOfTheAnimals #AdoptDontShop #PalmCoast #FlaglerCounty

9/30 - 🎶 Do you remember… Jethrow? 🐾 September brings good memories and moments we wish could last. As the month ends, we hope October gives Jethrow the fresh start he has been waiting for. Jethrow is a three-year-old, 95-pound dog who is ready to find his forever home. Jethrow was adopted from Flagler Humane Society about two years ago and had a happy home for a while. Sometimes life changes in ways our pets cannot understand. Due to personal circumstances, his owner could not keep him, so Jethrow returned to the shelter. He is having a hard time adjusting. Please do not judge Jethrow by how he acts in his kennel. The shelter is stressful for him, but once outside, you will see he is sweet and playful. He enjoys walks and loves to play. He is house-trained, gets along with cats, has lived with older children, and already knows sit, paw, and down. If you give him a treat, he will show you his best manners. Jethrow did not return because he misbehaved. His life simply changed. Now he hopes someone will help him start a new chapter. Come meet this wonderful dog and give him a chance to show you his loving personality. 📍 Flagler Humane Society 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast #adoptdontshop #dog #september

9/29 - This is your sign to adopt Shadow! Yes, he’s currently smashing his entire face flat against the kennel door like a complete weirdo, but that’s just how badly this handsome guy wants a walk and a real home. At 4 years old and 65 lbs, this grey pit mix is a total sweetheart who ended up at the shelter through no fault of his own. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and knows commands like sit, down, paw, come, and stay. Shadow gets along well with kids over 10, loves playing fetch, and has so much love to share. Come save Shadow from his dramatic kennel routine and give this goofy boy the forever family he deserves! 🐾❤️

9/26 - 🐾 Every Day, More Animals Arrive at Our Doors 🐾 August was overwhelming for our shelter. In just one month, we took in: * 92 stray kittens * 46 stray adult cats * 21 surrendered adult cats * 6 surrendered kittens That’s 165 cats and kittens in just 31 days, and that’s only one month. We can’t solve the pet overpopulation crisis through adoptions alone. The real answer is prevention. Please spay and neuter your pets. It saves lives before animals ever need a shelter. 🐈‍⬛ Community and feral cats need our help too. TNR saves lives. Did you know that one unspayed female cat can produce over 400,000 kittens in just seven years? That’s why TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is such a powerful way to reduce suffering and help control community cat populations. 📅 Next TNR Date: Wednesday, September 30, 2026 ⏰ Drop-off: 8:30 AM 📍 Flagler Humane Society, 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast 🐈 Limit: Up to 3 cats per person 🗒️ Fee: $45 per cat (includes spay/neuter, ear notch, panleukopenia vaccine, and rabies vaccine) 💛 TNR Works: ✔️ Reduces the number of litters over time ✔️ Controls community cat populations humanely ✔️ Improves the overall health of outdoor cats ✔️ Saves lives right here in Flagler County If you see community cats in your neighborhood, please think about trapping them and bringing them to us on Wednesdays. Together, we can make a real difference. #spayneutersaveslives #cats #petlovers

9/26 - 🐾 Staff Pick of the Week: Matilda ❤️ This week, Colleen, our Front Desk Manager, picked Matilda as her Staff Pick. Matilda is a 5-year-old, 48-pound mama who arrived here after she and her two puppies were left near two busy highways. One of her front legs gives her trouble, and she’s missing a few teeth, but she’s still just as sweet. Matilda loves people and is always ready to show affection. Matilda can be selective with other dogs and has a bit of prey drive, so she would do best in a home without cats. If you already have a dog, we’ll need to set up a meet-and-greet to make sure they get along. If you ask Colleen what makes Matilda special, she’ll tell you it’s her heart. Matilda is so loving, and even after all she’s been through, she’s still eager to share her affection. Matilda might walk a bit differently, but nothing keeps her from running straight toward love. Come meet Matilda at Flagler Humane Society and let this sweet mama show you how much love she has to offer. #adoptdontshop #dogs #rescuedog

9/20 - 🐾 Say Hello to Rocky! 🐾 Rocky is six years old, weighs 55 pounds, and is hoping to find a loving home where he can enjoy a simple, happy life. When you take Rocky for a walk, he often looks back to check on you every few steps, making sure you’re still with him. He truly loves his people. Rocky walks nicely on a leash and likes to stop for a good roll in the grass. He’s very motivated by treats, especially if there’s a Peanut Butter Kong. He takes treats gently, loves a good routine, and feels happiest when he knows what to expect. Rocky hopes to find a family who will value his loyal and easygoing personality and give him the love and companionship he deserves. If you want a sweet and devoted companion to enjoy life’s simple moments with, come meet Rocky. He could be the perfect match for you.❤️🐾

9/19 - 🐾 Staff Pick of the Week: Brooke! Meet Brooke, a 2-year-old, 51-pound pup chosen by Animal Control Officer Katie as this week’s Staff Pick. Brooke is a sweet, playful young dog ready to leave shelter life behind and find her forever family. She might be shy at first, but with a little time, her fun and affectionate personality comes out. She enjoys walks, car rides, and playing in the yard, and she walks nicely on a leash. She gets along well with dogs and kids, and she is not very interested in cats. Her previous owner also reported that she was friendly with children of all ages and lived with a cat. Brooke came to us because her owner had health issues. She arrived with her brother Nico. They can be adopted together or separately. Katie sees something special in Brooke, and we think you will too! Come meet Brooke, take her for a walk, and see if she could be the new best friend you’ve been looking for. 🐾 📍1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast, FL 32137

Beatrice is 9 years old and about 46lbs, sweet, steady, and just as smart. Both girls are great with other dogs, super treat-motivated, and honestly two of the sweetest pups you'll ever meet 🐶✨ They've been waiting a while for their loving homes, and we'd love nothing more than to see that change soon! She played with dogs big and small, charmed every person who walked by, and absolutely fell in love with the water, splashing, dunking her face in, having the time of her life! 💦 Trini is house-trained, great on a leash, and gets along wonderfully with other pups. Oh, and don't miss her signature look: one ear up, one ear flopped 🥹 Be honest, could you say no to that face? She came to us as an urgent transfer from another shelter, and now she's just looking for the home where her story changes for good.
