Our Mission
Friends of Strays Animal Shelter exists to inspire compassion for all animals, provide shelter and humane care to homeless animals, and promote adoptions and responsible pet guardianship in our community. We are dedicated to connecting animals in need of rescue with people who will love them.
Our Story
As St. Petersburg’s oldest no-kill animal shelter, we have been serving our community since 1978. Our top priority is to create a better world for pets and people, ensuring that animal companionship is accessible through our advocacy, outreach, and life-saving programs.
How We Care
We provide a safe haven for thousands of cats and dogs every year. Our dedicated staff and volunteers offer the utmost love and care to every animal in our shelter, from medical examinations upon intake to enrichment activities that help them feel safe and loved.

10/1 - Sienna is vamped up for the month of October! 🦇 This 1-year-old girl can’t wait to celebrate the spooky season by watching all your favorite Halloween movies with you and helping you decide what costume you’re going to wear this year. 🍿🎃 Sienna loves playing with her favorite toys and doesn’t mind sharing the fun with cats that are just as playful as her. She’s always up for a new adventure, whether that’s finding a new place to cozy up into or getting caught up on all the neighborhood happenings from her window stakeout seat.🪟💚 Sienna is waiting for time to fly by til you’re able to come in and meet her. She just knows you’re going to love her right off the bat! 🦇 🐾We’re open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday for adoptions.🐾 💚Cats are located at The Cat Box, 3015 46th Ave. N, St. Petersburg FL 33714.💚

Morning. 🐾💙 Our Skyway family showed up BIG for @friendsofstrays today… 💰 $1,271 RAISED 💰 That money will go directly toward supporting the shelter and the animals they care for, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.
