Charles Smithgall Humane Society and Adoption Center
Our Mission
The Charles Smithgall Humane Society is a small but mighty, no-kill shelter in the North Georgia mountains dedicated to finding safe, loving, and forever homes for unwanted, homeless, and neglected animals. We advocate for animal welfare by reducing pet overpopulation and teaching responsible pet ownership, ensuring every animal remains safe under our care until they find their perfect match.
Who We Are
Located in the heart of Sautee Nacoochee, our organization is a 501(c)3 nonprofit sustained entirely by the generous support of private individuals and businesses. Every day, we work to rescue dogs and cats from difficult situations, providing them with essential medical care, shelter, and a respite from the stresses of high-kill facilities.
Our Care Model
We provide a safe, nurturing environment for our animals, offering comprehensive veterinary services including vaccinations, spay and neuter procedures, and specialized treatment for illness or injury. Because our facility is small, we operate on an appointment-only basis to ensure every visitor receives dedicated attention while protecting the health and comfort of our residents. By focusing on each animal’s unique health and behavioral needs, we ensure they are ready to thrive in their new lives.
The Adoption Partnership
Adding a pet to your family is a lifetime commitment, and our thoughtful adoption process is designed to foster a beautiful, lasting companionship. We prioritize safety and compatibility, working closely with prospective adopters to ensure a successful transition for both the pet and the household. We believe that when you adopt from Smithgall, you are not just getting a pet; you are starting a joyful, life-changing journey with a new best friend.
