Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society

Our Mission

Thomasville Humane is dedicated to ensuring the humane care of animals in partnership with our community. We are proud to be the largest non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organization in southwestern Georgia, creating a lasting impact on the lives of pets and people every single day.

Our History and Commitment

Since our founding in 1970 by a group of passionate local advocates, we have served as a leading voice for animal welfare in Thomas County. Today, we continue that legacy by helping more than 1,000 animals find their forever homes each year, while also supporting 44 municipal shelters across the state through our Shelter Collaborative program.

How We Help

As a limited-admission shelter, we provide a safe, temporary home for abandoned, homeless, and abused pets, ensuring every animal that can be saved is saved. Beyond our shelter walls, we work hard to keep people and pets together through counseling, community cat programs, and accessible services like spay/neuter clinics and microchipping. We are deeply committed to promoting responsible pet ownership in partnership with the community we serve.

Building Your New Partnership

We believe that placing every adoptable pet in a loving home is a joyful, transformative experience for both the animal and the family. Our staff is dedicated to guiding you through our simple, affordable adoption process to help you find your perfect match. When you adopt from us, your new best friend comes fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and microchipped, ensuring a healthy and happy start to your life together.

Join Our Mission

Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or foster, there are many ways to get involved in our lifesaving work. We invite you to browse our real-time list of adoptable pets online or visit us during our open hours to meet your new best friend in person. Together, we can continue to create a more compassionate world for the animals who need us most.

9/23 - We thought their waiting was finally over. 💔 After nearly 200 days, Blue walked out of our shelter. After nearly 300 days, Sassy did too. So many of you celebrated with us when two of our longest residents finally went home. Now, both of them are back. We want to be very clear: this post is not about placing blame on anyone. Sometimes an adoption simply isn’t the right fit, despite everyone’s best intentions. We are grateful for every person who opens their home to an animal, and our focus now is simply on helping Sassy and Blue move forward. They are still the same dogs so many of you rooted for. Still lovable. Still deserving. Still worthy of the happy ending we all hoped for them. We won’t give up on them, but we need your help. Please share this post. Tell a friend. Consider fostering. Come meet them. Their forever homes could be one share away. If you can’t adopt or foster, a donation helps us continue caring for Sassy, Blue, and every animal who needs another chance. 💙 Sassy + Blue are available for adoption at Thomasville Humane, and their adoption fees are waived in hopes of helping them find the forever homes they deserve. We are open daily from 1–6 PM, 7 days a week. Learn more about adopting, fostering, donating, and other ways to help at thomasvillehumane.org. Please keep comments kind and focused on helping these two move forward. Thank you for creating impact every day with Thomasville Humane. 💙🐾
