The Cherokee Humane Society exists to save, alter, and vaccinate animals in need, providing a path to a better life for felines and canines. We are dedicated to ending euthanasia by rescuing pets from shelters and challenging situations to ensure they find their forever homes.
Founded in 1975, the Cherokee Humane Society has spent nearly fifty years rescuing thousands of animals. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community because we do not receive any local, state, or federal funding. Your contributions, whether through our Thrift Store or direct donations, are the backbone of our lifesaving work.
We operate as a foster-based rescue, meaning our adoptable dogs and puppies live in loving foster homes to ensure they are well-socialized and ready for your family. Every animal in our care is fully vetted, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before adoption. By partnering with volunteers and local businesses like PetSmart and Petco, we work together to facilitate meaningful adoptions throughout our community.
Adopting is a joyful journey, and our goal is to create the best match for both the animal and your household. Because our animals thrive in foster environments, we are able to provide you with honest insights into their personalities and needs. We invite you to view our available dogs and cats online and submit an application to start the process of bringing a new friend home.
Whether you choose to shop at our Thrift Store in Woodstock, become a foster parent, or support us with a donation, your help changes lives.
