Since 1977, the Lemhi County Humane Society has been dedicated to providing high-quality sheltering services for homeless companion animals. We serve as a compassionate advocate for pets in need, working tirelessly to ensure that every animal in our community is treated with the kindness and respect they deserve.
Our journey began in the early 1970s when a local student’s concern for the city animal pound inspired a grassroots movement. Incorporated in 1977, our organization continues to fulfill that initial promise by operating the Salmon Animal Shelter and managing the Rags & Wags Thrift Store to help fund our vital work.
We provide a safe haven for stray, abandoned, and owner-surrendered pets, offering health assessments and vaccinations to every animal in our care. Beyond our facility walls, we fund public spay and neuter programs to decrease overpopulation and act as a first line of defense against animal neglect in partnership with local law enforcement. Our efforts are sustained by our community and our dedicated team of staff and volunteers who work 365 days a year to improve animal lives.
Adoption is the start of a beautiful, lifelong friendship, and we take pride in helping you find the perfect companion for your home. By ensuring every animal receives medical care and behavioral support, we aim to set the stage for a successful, happy transition into your family. Our team is here to guide you through the process, ensuring both you and your new furry friend feel confident and supported.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to browse our current adoptable pets online or visit us at the shelter to experience the joy of connecting with an animal in need. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or contribute through a donation, your involvement helps us continue our mission of hope and healing for Lemhi County’s animals.
