Tree House Humane Society empowers communities of caregivers to advocate and care for cats while reimagining solutions for a more compassionate future. We are building a world where every cat thrives.
Since 1971, Tree House has been a dedicated force for feline welfare in Chicago. We were founded by a small group of passionate people who wanted to improve the lives of local animals, eventually growing into the organization you see today—known best as Chicago’s first cage-free cat shelter.
Our work is rooted in a community-based approach, focusing on helping stray, injured, and abandoned cats through a managed-admission model. Beyond our unique cage-free shelter environment, we provide essential services like spay and neuter programs, community cat support, and our Veterinary Wellness Center, ensuring that cats have the resources they need to live healthy, happy lives.
We believe there is a cat for everyone, and our conversation-based, open adoption process is designed to help you find the perfect match. Our team takes the time to get to know you and our resident cats, ensuring that your new companion fits seamlessly into your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a playful kitten or a wise senior, we are here to support you in building a lifelong bond.
Happy endings start here! We invite you to visit our shelter in Chicago to meet our adoptable residents and experience our compassionate, model care firsthand. You can explore our available cats online or stop by during our walk-in adoption hours, Wednesday through Sunday, to discover the love waiting for you at Tree House.
