Tails Humane Society
Our Mission
At Tails Humane Society, our mission is to build a compassionate community through the care of companion animals. We believe in the power of second chances and are dedicated to providing a safe haven for displaced pets as they wait for their forever homes.
A History of Compassion
Founded in 1999 by a group of passionate local animal advocates, our organization set out to bring a comprehensive animal shelter to DeKalb. Since opening our Barber Greene facility in 2005, we have remained committed to growing our programs and services to ensure we can meet the evolving needs of the animals and families in our region.
Our Approach to Care
As a managed admission shelter, we focus on providing quality, individualized care for every animal that comes through our doors. This philosophy allows us to dedicate the time and resources necessary to help each pet heal and thrive. From our robust foster program that provides a low-stress environment for nursing mothers and recovering animals, to our dedicated shelter staff, every step is taken to ensure our animals are ready for their next chapter.
The Joy of Adoption
Finding your new best friend is a momentous decision, and we are here to make it a joyful, supported experience. We take the time to get to know both you and our animals, considering your lifestyle and experience to ensure a perfect match. Whether you are a dog lover, a cat fancier, or have a heart for small and furry companions, we believe in the transformative power of adoption.
Meet Your Future Friend
We invite you to experience the difference for yourself at our DeKalb facility. Please visit us to view our currently available pets or reach out to our team to learn more about our adoption process. Your support helps us continue our life-saving work, and we cannot wait to help you find your new family member.
