At Metro East Humane Society, we are dedicated to improving the lives of pets and people in the STL Metro East area. Since 1986, we have been committed to creating second chances and building a better future for animals through compassionate care, advocacy, and community support.
Our Story
Our journey began in 1985 with a mission to advocate for the ethical treatment of animals in our region. Today, we continue that legacy by providing a safe haven for dogs and cats, ensuring they receive the kindness and medical attention they deserve while they wait for their forever homes.
How We Help
We operate two no-kill shelters in Edwardsville and Highland, IL, where our dedicated team provides a safe environment for animals in need. Our work extends far beyond our shelter walls through programs like low-cost spay and neuter clinics, vaccine services, pet food assistance, and community outreach. By supporting people with resources to care for their companions, we keep families together and pets happy and healthy.

10/7 - POV: coming home to Hunni after a long day 🥹🏡 Meet this perfect angel baby with the cutest pillowy pout today at our Edwardsville shelter! We're open 11:30-5, Wednesday through Sunday for walk-in adoption hours. Email info@mehs.org with any questions or head to mehs.org/adopt. Hunni came to us recently from Alton Animal Care & Control. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines and as sweet as her name. She's dog friendly and would very likely love a kiddo to cuddle up with and rub her belly. We think she could also be in a home with cats if given the right adjustment period!💙💚🧡
