Our Mission
Starfish Animal Rescue is dedicated to rescuing animals from high-kill shelters and facilitating their journey to secure, loving, non-kill establishments. We believe in making a difference for each individual animal, one life at a time, while working toward a world where every dog and cat is cherished and cared for.
The Starfish Story
Our organization is inspired by the story of a boy throwing starfish back into the ocean, proving that even small actions can change the world for one life. Since 2006, we have focused on providing long-term solutions, including low-cost spay and neuter programs and community education. We believe that by supporting the big picture—from vetting breeding pairs to providing food donations—we can help keep pets in their homes and reduce the need for shelter intake.
How We Help
We operate primarily through a dedicated network of foster homes, which are essential to our ability to save lives. Before finding their forever families, every animal in our care receives thorough veterinary exams, vaccinations, spay or neuter surgeries, and microchipping. By collaborating with veterinarians and behaviorists, we ensure that every rescued pet receives the medical attention and socialization needed for a successful transition.
Your Role as an Adopter
We are committed to finding the perfect match between our rescued animals and their new families through a thoughtful application and home-visit process. Adopting is a joyful partnership, and we strive to provide the resources—including post-adoption training support—to ensure your new companion feels right at home. Because we rely on a local foster network, our adoptions are centered within the Chicagoland area and its surrounding suburbs.
