Our Mission
Animal House Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to rescuing and caring for homeless pets until they find their perfect, loving forever homes. We believe in providing every animal with a safe environment and a second chance at happiness.
Our History and Purpose
Since our founding in June 2002, we have been committed to saving dogs and cats, many of whom come to us from high-kill facilities where they are at risk due to a lack of space. We also accept owner relinquishments, understanding that life circumstances can change, and we strive to be a reliable resource for pets in need throughout our community.
How We Care
Our facility provides a clean, nurturing environment where animals are treated like our own while they await their new families. We also rely on a vital network of foster homes to provide specialized care for young puppies and kittens, as well as those needing extra socialization or recovery time from medical conditions. This blend of shelter and foster care allows us to maximize the number of lives we can save each year.

10/3 - Huntley, Illinois. 🐱🧹 We recently received one seriously AMAZING donation—our very own robot vacuum and mop! 🙌💜 It can be scheduled to clean after we close, helping keep our floors clean while our staff focuses their time on caring for the animals. There’s just one small catch… the cats have decided its performance requires VERY close supervision. 👀😂 All jokes aside, we are incredibly grateful to the generous donor who gave us this awesome addition to the shelter. 9/30 - Tank doesn’t know his heart is different. ❤️ He doesn’t know what severe subaortic stenosis means. He doesn’t know that his cardiologist can’t tell us how long he’ll have. And he certainly doesn’t know that sudden cardiac death is a possibility. Tank just knows he’s a puppy. A happy, sweet, goofy puppy who wants to play, be loved and have a family of his own. Veterinary literature gives dogs with heart measurements in Tank’s range an average lifespan of approximately three years—but that’s only an average. His cardiologist has seen dogs with severe SAS live well beyond expectations and continue to do wonderfully. Others can be lost much sooner. There is simply no way to know what Tank’s story will be. What we do know is that however much time Tank has, we want that time to matter. We want him sleeping in someone’s home. We want him to have his favorite spot on the couch. We want someone celebrating his birthdays, taking too many pictures of him and telling him every single day what a good boy he is.
