Sunrise Center Animal Rescue is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need, with a special focus on vulnerable and at-risk cats. Every animal matters, and every rescue is a meaningful step toward a brighter, more humane future.
Our Story and Community Impact
Founded by Karen Hemza, our organization works to address the root causes of animal homelessness in Kankakee County through advocacy and community outreach. We focus on providing access to low-cost spay and neuter services, pet food distribution, and supportive care for feral cats to reduce overpopulation and promote responsible ownership.
Our Care Model
We provide compassionate care, essential medical treatment, and safe shelter for our residents until they find their perfect forever homes. While we are primarily a cat rescue, we are committed to being a resource for all animals in need, occasionally placing dogs into loving foster homes when urgent circumstances arise.
