St. Francis CARE is dedicated to working with our compassionate community to end pet homelessness and animal suffering. We provide shelter and veterinary care to lost, unwanted, and abandoned animals until they are placed in a loving, permanent home.
Founded in 2006 by a group of animal enthusiasts, St. Francis CARE established itself as Southern Illinois’s first no-kill animal rescue. Over the past two decades, we have grown from a bold idea into a thriving facility in Murphysboro, complete with a nursery, specialized cat housing, and playyards, all designed to give animals a safe place to heal and thrive.
As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we believe that every animal deserves the best. Our residents receive high-quality nutrition through our partnership with the Purina Animal Shelter Program, along with comprehensive veterinary care including spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and microchipping. Our dedicated staff and volunteers ensure every animal receives the love, attention, and exercise they need while they wait for their perfect match.
We strive to make the adoption process a joyful experience that leads to a lifetime of companionship. Our team invests time in getting to know each animal’s personality so we can help you find a pet that fits your lifestyle perfectly. We believe these thoughtful connections are the foundation of a successful, long-term adoption.
We invite you to be a part of our story by visiting our shelter, meeting our wonderful residents, or joining our volunteer family. Whether you adopt, donate, or spread the word, every act of kindness helps us continue our life-saving work. Come visit us in Murphysboro today to find your new best friend.
