At the Naperville Area Humane Society, we are dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of companion animals and creating lasting human-animal bonds. We believe in engaging people to compassionately and responsibly create a more humane world.
Our Story
Since 1979, our community has come together to provide a safe, secure haven for homeless animals. Starting from a small group of passionate citizens and growing into our current 8,150-square-foot facility, we have remained committed to serving the animals and residents of the western suburbs of Chicago.
How We Care
As a 501(c)3 limited-admission shelter, we ensure every animal receives tender, individualized care, including vaccinations, medical exams, and spay/neuter surgeries prior to adoption. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to maintain a high standard of enrichment, ensuring that every cat and dog is treated like an honored guest while waiting for their forever home.

10/14 - Behind-the-scenes at NAHS 🐶🐾 It takes a cohesive team to give our dogs the best care possible! First we started with a PACK PARADE: a group walk to build social skills, lower stress levels, and refine their social cues. Then we followed up with TEAM TRAINING: An hour long session on dog behavior led by our on-staff trainers to keep the whole team aligned, refreshed, and operating seamlessly. 10/13 - Education is the first step towards building a kinder, more compassionate community for our pets 🐈⬛🐶🐾 We had the joy of hosting our local Brownie troop at our shelter as part of our ongoing community tour program. Together, we talked about what it takes to be a responsible pet owner, explored different reason why animals end up at a shelter, and discussed how we can all play a part in helping them. The girls got to meet some of our resident cats and dogs, and see what goes on behind the scenes. 10/5 - We have received an overwhelming and wonderful response regarding the kittens we rescued last week! Thank you all for your incredible support and donations. Here are a few updates on their status: Half of the kittens are currently thriving in foster care with our dedicated foster team. This temporary placement has allowed us to open up critical space to help more animals in need. Once they reach the appropriate age for spay and neuter procedures, they will return to our facility and become officially available for adoption (approximately 2-3 weeks) Meanwhile, the remaining kittens continue to receive attentive care from our staff and volunteers, as well as preparing for their upcoming spay and neuter procedures. How to Stay Updated and Get Involved; Our website is updated daily, and once any of the kittens are fully cleared and ready for adoption, their profiles will be posted there. While we are unable to place holds on specific animals, joining our foster program is a wonderful way to care for these kittens firsthand. Foster applications are available on our website under the foster section. If fostering isn’t the right fit at this time, we always welcome volunteers! 10/2 - We are still floating on air after last week’s annual Black Cat Ball! Surrounded by so many passionate animal lovers, our community came together in the most incredible way to support stray, abandoned, and vulnerable pets in need. Because of your generosity, bids, and donations during the evening’s auctions, we raised vital funds that go directly toward medical care, shelter, and second chances for the animals waiting for their forever homes. 9/22 - We received an AMAZING donation today from @rydersystem 🐾. Thanks to their donation of over 1,500 puppy pads, our fur babies will be covered for months to come!
