The Animal Protection League, Inc. exists to make second chances possible through the power of the human/animal connection. We are dedicated to building a compassionate, humane community where every animal is treated with dignity and love.
Founded in 2003, our organization began with a goal to raise awareness about responsible animal care and the importance of the bond we share with our pets. In 2011, we entered into a vital partnership with the City of Anderson to manage the operations of its animal shelter, allowing us to expand our impact and reach even more animals in need.
We operate as an open-admission shelter that provides care for thousands of homeless dogs and cats each year. Our facility is more than just a shelter; it is a hub of innovation featuring unique programs like FIDO, the 9 Lives Cat Prison Program, and the FORWARD program, which use the human/animal bond to provide rehabilitation for inmates while socializing our adoptable pets. We are committed to fostering a healing environment where animals receive the medical attention and socialization they deserve while waiting for their forever families.
Adoption is a beautiful act of love that changes lives for both the pet and the person. We strive to create the best possible connections between humans and animals by carefully reviewing applications and prioritizing a lifelong commitment to each animal’s well-being. When you choose to adopt, you aren't just gaining a new best friend—you are providing a second chance and helping us make space for another animal in need.
Are you ready to find your new best friend? We invite you to view our list of adoptable dogs and cats online or visit our shelter to meet our wonderful residents in person. Join us in making second chances a reality for animals in our community today.
