Madison County Humane Society

Our Mission

Our mission is to help homeless cats and dogs find loving forever homes, promote responsible pet ownership, and advocate for the humane treatment of all animals. We are dedicated to helping pets in need and supporting the families who love them.

Our History and Community

Since 1973, the Madison County Humane Society has served as a private, no-kill animal rescue and shelter in Anderson, Indiana. For over 45 years, we have operated entirely on the generosity of the public, relying on donations and fundraising efforts to sustain our work without the support of taxpayer funds.

How We Care

We provide a safe haven for over 100 to 115 homeless animals every day within our facility, with additional support provided by our dedicated foster network. As a 501(c)(3) organization, every dollar we receive goes directly toward providing kennel care, medical treatment, vaccinations, and nutrition for the animals in our protection. We believe in the dignity of every animal and work tirelessly to ensure each one receives the compassion they deserve while awaiting their new family.

Finding Your Perfect Companion

We view adoption as a meaningful partnership rather than a transaction. Our team intentionally avoids same-day adoptions, preferring to focus on creating the best possible lifestyle fit for both the animal and the adopter. By utilizing a thorough application and screening process, we ensure that every pet finds a safe, supportive, and lasting home where they can thrive.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Whether you are looking to adopt a new family member, volunteer your time, or donate to our cause, you are an essential part of our community. We invite you to explore our list of adoptable animals online or visit our facility in Anderson to meet some of the wonderful pets currently in our care. Together, we can continue to change the lives of homeless dogs and cats every day.
