The White River Humane Society is dedicated to providing care for the lost, homeless, and neglected dogs and cats of Lawrence County, Indiana. We strive to create a safer community by offering public education and essential services that help reduce the number of unwanted animals.
Over a decade ago, our organization faced difficult challenges, with euthanasia rates as high as 51% for cats and 44% for dogs. Through the determination of our staff, board, volunteers, and the incredible support of our community, we have transformed into a true safe haven. In 2024, we proudly achieved a 96% out-alive rate, proving that every life matters and every animal deserves a second chance.
As an independent, pro-life organization, we operate 365 days a year to care for the animals entrusted to us. Our facility serves as a vital resource for Lawrence County, and we rely on a dedicated network of volunteers and foster families to provide extra care for our most fragile residents. While we are not fully funded by tax dollars, your donations and support allow us to maintain this life-saving work every single day.
We view each adoption as a joyful partnership, which is why we act as advocates for our animals to ensure they find the best possible placement. By thoughtfully matching each pet with the right home, we aim to set both the animal and the family up for a lifetime of success. Whether you are looking for a playful companion or a calm best friend, we are here to help you make a lifelong connection.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our available dogs and cats online, fill out an adoption application, or visit us at 3511 Pumphouse Road in Bedford. Together, we can continue to give more animals the bright future they deserve.
