Bloomington Animal Shelter

Our Mission

At the Bloomington Animal Shelter, we are dedicated to addressing and responding to all animal needs in our community through education, enforcement, and support. We work every day to build a neighborhood where animals are truly valued and treated with kindness and respect.

Building a Community of Care

As a division of the Department of Public Works, we serve as a vital resource for both our citizens and their companion animals. Our work is driven by the belief that every animal deserves a safe, loving, and lifelong home, and we are committed to providing the medical and behavioral support necessary to make those happy endings possible.

How We Help

We are proud of our compassionate, multi-faceted approach to animal welfare, which relies on a strong partnership between our professional staff and a dedicated network of foster families. In 2024 alone, our foster team provided essential love, socialization, and consistency to over 1,800 animals. Whether through our medical fund that provides life-changing care or our collaborative rehoming support, we strive to meet the diverse needs of the animals in our care.

Finding Your Perfect Match

Our goal is to create the best possible match between you and your new furry best friend. During our adoption counseling process, we take the time to learn about your lifestyle and expectations, ensuring a partnership that is a perfect fit for both you and your new companion. We believe the adoption process should be a joyful, thoughtful start to a beautiful, lifelong relationship.

Start Your Journey

Are you ready to meet your next best friend? We invite you to visit our shelter to see our adoptable animals in person, or reach out to our team with any questions. Together, we can provide the love and care our community’s animals deserve.
