The Humane Society of Elkhart County is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, rehoming, and advocating for the compassionate care of animals. We strive to create caring communities that advocate for the humane treatment of all animals, enriching lives through every step of our journey.
Our story began in the late 1930s, when a small group of concerned individuals joined together to address the fate of stranded and unwanted animals. Since our formal organization in 1939, we have grown to become a vital resource for Elkhart County, providing essential shelter and animal control services for our community.
As a private 501c3 non-profit organization, we are proud to serve as an open admission shelter for Elkhart County. This means we never turn away animals from our service area, ensuring that every homeless pet has a place to go. From our facility in Bristol, we provide food, shelter, and medical care while working tirelessly to find every animal a loving, permanent home.
We believe that pets are family, and we are honored to help you find your next companion. Our team is committed to making thoughtful, successful matches, and we invite you to visit our shelter to meet our residents in person. We work hard to ensure that every animal in our care receives the love and attention they deserve while waiting for their perfect match.
There are many ways to get involved, whether through adopting, donating, or volunteering your time to help us change lives. We invite you to browse our live list of adoptable pets on our website or visit us today to start your journey with a new best friend. Together, we can continue to save animals and enrich lives right here in Elkhart County.
