The Humane Society for Hamilton County is dedicated to saving lives, educating our community, and completing families. We believe that every animal deserves a chance to live, love, and be loved, regardless of age, breed, or special needs.
Founded in 1984, we have evolved from a county-owned building into a modern, state-of-the-art animal wellness center on Hague Road. Today, we are proud to serve as Indiana’s only truly open-admission, no-kill shelter, consistently achieving a 97% or higher live placement rate since 2014.
We operate under the philosophy that every treatable or rehabilitatable animal deserves a life-saving outcome. Our dedicated team works 365 days a year to provide medical care, behavioral support, and compassion to every animal that enters our doors. We also bridge the gap between people and pets through innovative programs like Pets Healing Vets, which connects military veterans with emotional support animals.
Adoption is a joyful, lifelong partnership, and we are here to help you find your perfect match. When you adopt from us, you aren't just gaining a companion; you are opening a space for another animal in need to receive their second chance. We invite you to visit our shelter with an open heart to meet the many animals waiting for their forever homes.
Ready to meet your new best friend? Browse our currently available dogs, cats, and barn cats on our website or visit us during our daily adoption hours. We look forward to helping you write the next chapter of your family's story.
