Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control serves our community in a humane, public safety capacity while working to keep pets with loving families. We are dedicated to providing education, resources, and life-saving care to help our animal friends thrive.
Our Story
Our roots in the community run deep, dating back to 1945 when the Fort Wayne Humane Society first opened its doors. Since 1982, as a city department, we have expanded our commitment to protect both our citizens and our animal population, ensuring every pet has the support they need.
Our Care Model
As northeast Indiana’s largest open-access shelter, we provide a safe harbor for every animal that comes to us from Allen County, regardless of their health or history. Beyond our facility at 3020 Hillegas Road, we rely on a compassionate network of foster families, dedicated volunteers, and community grants to ensure every pet receives the care, social interaction, and second chances they deserve.

7/31 - FWACC waiving kitten, cat adoption fees through Saturday as animal shelter reaches capacity
