Changing Lives Through Second Chances

Medical Mutts Service Dogs Inc. is dedicated to saving lives and promoting kindness by training rescue dogs to become life-changing service dogs and companion animals. We believe that a rescue dog can change a person's life, and we exist to make that potential a reality.

Our Mission and Commitment

We are a nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis, serving clients nationwide through our commitment to research, education, and ethical training. Our mission is built on four core pillars: rescuing shelter dogs, transforming lives through service, advancing training standards through research, and building a compassionate community.

Evidence-Based Care

Our training methods are firmly rooted in learning science and positive reinforcement. We focus on building confident, enthusiastic dogs by prioritizing humane, science-based techniques, which ensures that our dogs are not just effective, but truly happy in their work.

Thoughtful Adoptions and Partnerships

We know that a successful partnership starts with a thoughtful match. Whether you are looking for a service dog for specialized support or a companion animal for your home, we prioritize behavioral evaluation and temperament to ensure long-term success. Our MuttMate adoption program is designed to provide you with a transparent, supported experience, including post-adoption guidance to ensure both you and your new dog thrive together.

Join Our Community

We invite you to be part of our mission and see the impact of our work firsthand. We encourage you to browse our available companion dogs, explore our training options, or visit us at our upcoming events in Indianapolis. Together, we can create a future where opportunity is not limited by disability, and where shelter dogs are recognized for their extraordinary ability to change lives.

10/13 - A new journey begins for Planetary and Brewer! 🐾 These two were selected from Lifeline Animal Project in Atlanta to join Medical Mutts. They’ll continue to be assessed as we get to know them and see how they take to training. If they have the right qualities, they may go on to become service dogs and make a life-changing difference for someone. There’s still a lot to discover, but today marks the start of a new chapter, with fresh opportunities, caring people, and a chance to find the path that’s right for each of them. Welcome, Planetary and Brewer! 💙 For information about our service dog program, visit: https://www.medicalmutts.org/

10/9 - Gracie would be very happy to help you do absolutely nothing on the couch. ❤️ She loves a cuddle, enjoys her toys, and has some pretty great “woowoos” to contribute to the conversation. She’s been with us for over 8 months, and we’d love to see her finally have a person and a home of her own. She’d be a lovely companion for someone who’s home often and enjoys a quiet household. She needs an adult-only home with no other pets, and a fenced yard would suit her well. At Medical Mutts, we spend time getting to know our dogs so we can help you find a good match. You can try living together before finalizing the adoption, and we include two private training sessions to help you settle in together. Come meet Gracie and our other adoptable dogs tomorrow, Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at 6120 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis. For more info about our adoption process and our available dogs, visit: https://www.medicalmutts.org/adopt-a-pet-dog-indianapolis And if Gracie isn’t the right fit for your home, please share her video. Someone out there might be just the person she’s been waiting for.

9/24 - Our mission is to help people with disabilities gain greater independence. We want that independence to begin the moment they arrive at our facility. Right now, steps at the end of our entrance ramp prevent some people who use wheelchairs from entering on their own. We’ve started building a new accessible ramp, and we need $5,000 to finish it. Watch the video to see why this matters. If you can, please give or share this post. Every donation to this campaign will help complete the ramp so more people can enter Medical Mutts with dignity and independence. A donor who funds the full project can be recognized with a plaque at the entrance. Donate here: https://secure.givelively.org/donate/medical-mutts/open-the-door-for-every-team 🐾

9/18 - Tiny trainees, big adventures! 🐾🐔 Molasses and Fritos, our two little service dogs in training, recently visited a farm to practice staying calm and focused around chickens. New sights, sounds, smells, and animals are all part of helping future service dogs become confident and adaptable wherever life takes them. They may be small, but these two are learning some very important skills! ❤️ #ServiceDogsInTraining #MedicalMutts #ServiceDogs #DogTraining #PositiveReinforcement #FutureServiceDogs
