Dubois County Humane Society

Our Mission

The Dubois County Humane Society is dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation, finding loving homes for abandoned and homeless animals, and preventing animal cruelty through community education. We believe every animal deserves a second chance at a happy life.

Our Community Commitment

Since our founding, we have remained deeply committed to the animals and families of Dubois County. By offering resources like our spay/neuter clinic and pet food assistance, we work to ensure that pets can stay safely in their homes while providing care for those currently awaiting their forever families.

How We Care

As a limited-admission shelter, we prioritize the health and well-being of every resident in our care. Our approach relies on a vital network of volunteers and foster homes who provide temporary love, socialization, and recovery time, allowing us to manage our resources responsibly without relying on time-based euthanasia.

Your Role in Our Family

Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to guide you toward the perfect match for your home. Whether you are looking for a new best friend or hoping to support our mission through volunteering, fostering, or attending our events, you are a crucial part of our lifesaving work.

Join Us

We invite you to explore our current adoptable dogs and cats, or visit our shelter in Jasper to meet the animals waiting for their next adventure. Every donation, hour of service, and adoption helps us create more success stories right here in our community.

10/13 - The shelter is a scary life for Frogger, but some kiddos used some of their lemonade stand earnings to buy him a few things to make life a little more fun while at the shelter. Frogger is less than a year old and has been with us for a few months now. Shelter life is stressful and scary. He could really use a home where he can relax and learn that life isn’t so scary.

10/5 - This may not look like much but to Piper, it means everything. Our staff and volunteers have spent time trying to figure out what makes Piper happy. Turns out, she just needs some one on one time and some calorie burning toys to be happy. Piper weighs in at 19.4 pounds. She is on a weight loss plan, but she really needs a home or a foster home to continue that journey. We are really rooting for her to find that home before October 21st. She is miserable in a small condo which will be necessary for her to return to during shelter renovations. Please help share far and wide so Piper can find her own home. ❤️

I'm adventurous, affectionate, and full of energy — ready to explore the world and shower you with puppy love at every turn! Already spayed and raring to go, I'm smart and playful, which means I'm set up for success in training and playtime. My adoption fee is $250, and I'd love to meet the family that's ready to watch me grow into the most loyal friend you could ask for. 💕 Come visit me and let's start this amazing journey together! Honey is currently in foster so please submit an application and our adoption team will reach out to set up a time to meet this little cutie patootie. 😍

10/1 - Meet Portobello! 🐾 This handsome guy is sweet, playful, curious, and always ready for his next adventure. Portobello had a rough start and spent the first part of his life battling one illness after another alongside his family. But this little fighter is healthy now, neutered, and more than ready to bust out of the shelter and into a home of his own. He would be a great fit for a family looking for an active, playful kitten who will keep life entertaining. Portobello’s adoption fee is just $40. However, if Portobello is adopted with his brother Button, their adoption fees are sponsored! Come meet him and see if he’s your new sidekick. ❤️

9/24 - 🐾 A quick DCHS update as we head into October Beginning in October, DCHS will be limiting all intake for a period of time as we work through renovations inside the shelter and continue navigating limited funding. This does not mean our doors are closing. We will still be here caring for the animals already depending on us, completing adoptions, and continuing to help where we can. However, portions of our building will be unavailable during flooring renovations, which means our ability to bring additional animals into the shelter will be limited. Our cats will be especially impacted because the renovation work directly affects the areas where many of them are housed. If you have been considering adoption and the timing is right for your family, now would be an incredible time to come meet our cats. ❤️ During this time, we are asking our community to please: • Make sure your pets are safely contained and properly identified. • Reclaim your animals if they become lost and are located. • Spay and neuter your pets to help prevent additional unwanted litters. • If you need assistance with a stray or another animal-related situation, please contact your local law enforcement or local government to request assistance. Every animal available for adoption through DCHS will have received age-appropriate veterinary care and will be spayed or neutered and microchipped before going home. Every adoption creates much-needed space and gives us more flexibility to continue helping animals in our community while renovations are underway. If you are ready to add a new family member, come visit us. 🐶🐱 There are a lot of really great animals here waiting for their chance. You can visit our website to view all adoptable animals.

9/22 - Ardella has been labeled as the bad girl at the shelter. With the right people and the right home, this girl will be a really great companion. She needs a home without children because she is a bottle raised girl that doesn’t realize teeth can hurt. She can do dogs. She will be sassy to other cats but we would be happy to try her in a home with other cats.
