The Animal Protection Association (APA) is dedicated to a powerful, simple mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome the forgotten cats and kittens in our community. We serve as a voice for the homeless, abandoned, and mistreated, providing every savable cat the second chance they deserve.
Founded in 1999, we are proud to be celebrating 26 years of saving lives in Southern Indiana and the Louisville area. As an independent, self-funded, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we chose to focus our efforts exclusively on cats because there were fewer organizations dedicated solely to their unique needs.
APA is an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue with no paid staff; every task is carried out by deeply committed volunteers who give their time, talent, and hearts. We provide a safe, loving environment in our shelter, foster homes, and adoption center, ensuring that every cat—no matter their age or health status—receives the medical care, enrichment, and attention they need until they find their forever family.
When you adopt from APA, you are gaining a cherished companion while opening up space for another cat in need. We work closely with each adopter to ensure a thoughtful match, providing support and guidance to create a lifelong, responsible partnership that brings happiness to both the cat and your home.
We invite you to meet the Fabulous Felines of APA currently waiting for their second chance. You can browse our available cats online via Petfinder, follow us on Facebook for the latest updates, or visit our website to start the adoption process today. Your new best friend might be waiting for you right now!
