9/20 - Michiana Humane Society Invites Community to Remember Beloved Pets at Remember Me Thursday

Michigan City, IN – Michiana Humane Society invites the community to come together for an evening of remembrance during the 13th annual Remember Me Thursday on Thursday, September 24, from 6:30–7:30 p.m. CST at the shelter. Remember Me Thursday is an international day of remembrance honoring the pets who have touched our lives, as well as shelter animals who never had the opportunity to know the love of a forever home. Some animals stay with us for a lifetime. Others leave us far too soon. But every one of them leaves a paw print on our hearts. Throughout the evening,

10/14 - 🔊SOUND UP FOR SWEET MEOWS🔊 😻 Why should someone adopt Momma? 😻 "She is incredibly sweet, calm, and affectionate, with a gentle nature that makes her a joy to be around. She loves to "chat" with her people, happily rubs up against you for attention, and enjoys being part of the family. She also has a playful side and enjoys chasing toys and engaging in fun play sessions before settling down. Momma is a complete sweetheart. Her favorite thing in the world is to be petted. She loves a good ear scratchie! 🩷 She will lean in and soak up all the love!" -Momma's foster mom. Momma would do best in a home without other furry friends. She shares quiet company and is the sweetest girl! Momma is about two years old and is spayed. Please email pets@michianapets.org to request an adoption application for Momma🩷🩷

10/12 - This beautiful sweetheart is Kitty🩷 She is about six-and-a-half years old, is spayed and is the queen of shrimp-like rollovers! What we mean is that when you pet her, she curls up and looks like a little shrimp then she stretches long and rolls over from side to side. She LOVES to be petted🥰 As a quiet gal, we think she'd love a similarly quiet home. But don't get us wrong, this girl is all about the love! We could see her being the most affectionate cat you've ever had. She's simply a doll🩷🥹🩷

10/11 - The many sweet smiles of Leeta make us smile, as well🥹 🩷Sweetest Leeta🩷 is about 50 pounds, is about two years old and has the ability to melt anyone's heart immediately. She is perfectly blended when it comes to being easy-going and fun and playful, as well. And because of that, we could see her being the perfect house hippo🥹 When meeting new people, Leeta is polite and mosies around at her own pace. After a few minutes, she sits nicely for treats and will relax next to you when she wants affection and love🩷 During our hangout sessions with Leeta, we are learning that she enjoys playing for a little bit but then prefers calm and quiet time most. She'll lie down in the sunshine, content to just "be" and lie close to her people. She'd love a home that operates at that pace💗💗 To make Leeta happiest, she'd love to be the only furbaby in her new home. We think kiddos over 10 could be her best friend! Another awesome thing about Leeta is her happy smile—it's the best. She grins from ear to ear and instantly makes us happier, too. She's a complete love. Come adopt Leeta💗🩷💗

10/11 - Biscuits from polydactly paws are the best ever🥰🥹🥰 Dr. Pepper isn't so sure about affection and then he is! It's like you just gotta get one lil' back or chin scratchie to him and then he's like, "Oh! That's right! I love being petted!" 🥹🐾 Once he is adjusted in a home, he will let you know when it is mealtime! 😅 He doesn't believe in being a single minute late!🐾😋🐾 In his previous home, he lived with other feline friends. As a quiet fellow, we think he'd shine brightly in a relatively quiet home. He likes when people come to visit him and are willing to spend time and then pet him softly. Once he has adjusted in the home, his best traits are that he is affectionate, vocal, snuggly and believes he is a lap-cat...all 13 pounds of him! Dr. Pepper is about four years old and he is neutered. We adore him! 🩵🩵🩵

10/10 - Veruca is always carrying around one of her favorite toys🥹 The cutest thing ever about Veruca is how much she loves her stuffies🥹 She is so playful, interactive and funny with them! Being a homepup, or, well, a homebody, hanging with her people, chillin' with her stuffies—that is the perfect, ideal home for 💗Veruca💗 She is looking for a life of leisure where she can relax and enjoy time in her yard/house with those she loves most. How great is it that you can have a dog who you can be lazy with and live a happy life with?! She is social and also able to chill on her own at a relaxed pace. Veruca will go off and play with her toys but then comes right back when she needs affection. She melts into people's arms! 🫠💗 It was no surprise to us that Veruca did best with a neutral dog who was also okay to hang out like she is. A hyper, high-energy pup most likely would not be her speed! She's a gal who likes the calm! That being said, she does not have to be placed with other pets. She most likely would be thrilled to be the center of your world. She wasn't overly interested in the shelter kitties; she may do well in a home with feline friends with a slow introduction. Being the nice, friendly girl that she is, we think kiddos should be about 8ish and older or so as long as the home environment is easy-going like she is. Veruca is treat-motivated and already knows how to sit. She takes snacks nicely and is very attentive. She's such a sweetheart. She is about 48 pounds, about two years old and is spayed. Adopt Veruca💗💗💗

10/9 - We've been telling you that watching Dudley play and chase his toys is the highlight of our day...now you can see why! This guy is all happiness and joy. This is 🤍Dudley🤍 He will throw his paws around like there is no way to contain them🥹 Dudley's playfulness doesn't stop when he's got his toys—he is just as fun around other friendly dogs, too! While we don't have history of Dudley living with cats, he was relatively neutral when meeting shelter cats so he may do well with a slow, positive introduction to them🐾🐾 He may look like a bigger boy in his pictures, but he's mostly fluff and only weighs about 37 pounds! Dudley would love an adopter who is active like he is. We could see Dudley being the best adventure buddy then wanting to snuggle close for a nap. Kiddos should be about 8ish and older! Dudley is about three years old and is neutered🤍🤍🤍

10/3 - When Charity called and asked how many dogs we had in the shelter, she then followed with telling us that she wanted to get a special treat for each of them🥹 Just a couple hours later, she arrived with a puppy-donut for each shelter dog🍩🐾They all felt so loved and enjoyed their very special dessert at the end of the day. Thank you for brightening the MHS shelter dogs' day, Charity💕 FYI: Not all of the dogs in this video are available for adoption! Some have been adopted since the video was taken!

9/30 - 💕Pixie💕 loves people and attention, and we have yet to see her not welcome affection with open paws. She is also very respectful! Pixie knows not to jump and is quite gentle, too! 🥰 If you have kiddos about 5ish and older, we think Pixie would be such a wonderful fursister to them. She is so social and welcoming. Once we observe her around cats, we will let you know! We've seen Pixie hang out with a smaller shelter dog and she did so well! 🩷 We always want to see our pets happy in their new home and we think Pixie would be so happy as long as she has people to love and dote on her and who will tell her how wonderful she is. Pixie is about two years old, 56 pounds and spayed. Come to MHS to meet her! 💕💞💕

She is so playful, interactive and funny with them! So, allow us to continue to introduce our brindle beauty, Veruca... She is social and also able to chill on her own at a relaxed pace. 9/26 - We wish you all would just stop by MHS to meet Sandy because there is no way to describe all of her little personality quirks😅🥹 This gal is a riot! But if you must know... Sandy is our big, squishy cutie. She weighs about 14 pounds (would love to lose a few pounds at a healthy pace). She makes the cutest trills and chirps and meows when she watches the cat TV. She moves so quickly and loves to play🐾 And then we should talk about her face. Ohhh, Sandy's little face. She has those round eyes that look mesmerizing, curious, and adorable all at the same time🥹 In her previous home, she lived around other cats and dogs and enjoyed their company! We would like to observe her around other shelter kitties and we can let you know how she reacts. We consistently see all of our staff and volunteers spending time with Sandy. She's irresistible. She is about seven years old and is spayed. There is so much more about Sandy that we can't even relay—just come meet her🧡🧡🧡

9/26 - It is impossible to take a bad photo of Brutus🥹🧡 Seriously! He is the most photogenic good boy ever! His personality is exactly what you would think: happy-go-lucky, friendly to everyone, loves affection, relatively derpy and so endearing—just one of those dogs everyone adores🥰🫠 ⭐⭐Brutus is in a foster-to-adopt home! Please call us at 219-872-4499 with questions!⭐⭐ We tease Brutus a bit because he isn't exactly proportional! He has a big ol' blockhead and broad shoulders, and on the other paw, he has a tiny little waist! We always tell him how handsome he is though, because, well, just look at that face and smile😁 Brutus has had positive interactions with other shelter dogs from what we have observed so far! He enjoys walkies and rolling around in the grass. Daily sunbathing in warm sunshine rays would be at the top of his list of fave things to do🌞 He weighs about 63 pounds, is neutered and is about three years old. Adopt this hunky boy! 🥰🧡🥰

9/26 - The best boy. The best manners. The most handsome face. The most endearing personality. Meet Papa John🤍🩶🤍 He is always willing to play but he is also always willing to turn the energy level down and relax next to you for snuggles. Papa John's motto is: belly rubs, tennis balls, affection, repeat. He is happy to be with people. If you are feeling tired, cool! He is down to relax. If you have some energy, great! So does Papa John🤍🩶🤍 He wants a family and is content to be loved🩶💗 His smile can brighten the hardest day. When you introduce yourself to Papa John, he comes to greet you with the best wagging tail. He wants to say hello and then if you ask him to sit, he sits down like a gentleman and waits patiently for a treat reward. Papa John is content to have his own space at home without dog friends but redirects nicely when he sees dogs out and about. He asks for no kitty friends. Older kiddos may be a great fit for him! He is about five years old, weighs around 65 pounds or so and is neutered. Papa John is waiting with open paws to meet you🤍🩶🤍
