Humane Indiana is dedicated to protecting pets, preserving wildlife, and supporting a nurturing connection between animals and people. We believe that every animal deserves a second chance, and we work tirelessly to create brighter futures for pets and the families who love them.
For over 80 years, what began as the Hammond Humane Society in 1941 has grown into a multi-faceted organization dedicated to animal care. Today, we manage a state-of-the-art shelter in Munster and a specialized wildlife rehabilitation center in Valparaiso, serving communities throughout Northwest Indiana with the same passion that our founders demonstrated in their original 3-car garage.
We provide compassionate care for thousands of animals annually, including domestic pets and native wildlife. Our operations include a dedicated shelter and adoption center, an animal clinic, and a robust foster network that provides loving, temporary transitions for animals waiting for their forever homes. Through these diverse services, we ensure that every animal in our care receives the medical attention and support they need to thrive.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to ensure you find the perfect match for your family. We encourage potential adopters to meet our residents and discuss their lifestyle, as we strive to create lasting, successful placements. When you adopt from us, you become a part of our forever family, receiving the support you need for a lifetime of happy companionship.
Are you ready to find your new best friend? We invite you to browse our currently adoptable pets online or visit our Munster facility to learn more about our adoption process. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of animals who need us most.
