The Brown County Humane Society is a community resource dedicated to promoting animal welfare by providing temporary shelter to pets in need and championing their adoption into permanent, loving homes. We envision a community where all animals are valued and treated with respect.
Since our organization was founded in 1966, we have served as the only animal shelter in Brown County, Indiana. We exist to be a voice for our community’s animals, evolving from a small volunteer-run group into a trusted resource that today operates a modern facility dedicated to the well-being of every cat and dog that comes through our doors.
We treat every animal as an individual, which is why we have maintained a remarkable save rate of over 96% for the last twelve years. Our care model goes beyond the shelter walls; through our Serving Pets Outreach Team (SPOT), we provide essential support including low-cost spay/neuter services, pet food assistance, and behavioral resources to help keep pets in their homes where they belong.
We believe that adoption is the start of a beautiful, lifelong partnership. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work hard to learn each animal’s unique personality to ensure the best possible match for your family. Whether you are looking for a gentle soul or a playful companion, our team is here to guide you through the process of finding your new best friend.
Are you ready to change a life? We invite you to view our currently available dogs and cats online or visit us during our open hours to meet your future companion in person. Together, we can ensure every homeless pet finds the loving home they deserve.
