Our Mission

Pet Refuge, Inc. is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter in South Bend, Indiana, dedicated to protecting the health and welfare of every animal in our care. Our mission is built on the belief that every animal deserves a loving forever home, and we work tirelessly to ensure each one receives the best possible placement.

Why We Are Here

For over 30 years, we have served our community by addressing the urgent need to control pet overpopulation and providing a safe haven for abandoned and unwanted pets. We recognize the unique value of every animal life, providing medical care and compassionate support while we prepare them for the next chapter of their lives.

How We Care

We operate through a combination of our South Bend facility on South Burnett Drive and a dedicated network of foster homes. Before adoption, every cat and dog is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and brought up to date on all necessary vaccinations. Additionally, our cats are tested for Leukemia and FIV, while our dogs receive heartworm testing to ensure they are ready for their new families.
