The Humane Society for Boone County is dedicated to rescuing, protecting, and advocating for animals in need as a pathway to finding them loving, forever homes. Our vision is a community where every animal is free from pain and suffering.
We are a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Boone County, Indiana, operating almost entirely through the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. We are not associated with or funded by the Humane Society of the United States, allowing us to focus our resources entirely on local animal welfare and community education.
We believe in providing a calm, safe, and nurturing environment for our animals, utilizing a managed-admission shelter and a network of foster families. By carefully managing our capacity, we ensure every animal receives the compassionate care they deserve while preparing them for their next chapter. This thoughtful approach has helped us maintain an impressive 97.04% live release rate.
Adopting is a beautiful way to create a connection that lasts a lifetime. Because our shelter space is limited and many of our animals are housed in foster homes, we operate by appointment to ensure every adoption is a perfect, lasting match. We encourage you to visit our website to schedule a meet-and-greet, so you can personally experience the joy of meeting your new best friend.
There are many ways to support our work, from fostering and volunteering to attending our community events. Whether you are ready to adopt, donate to our medical fund, or simply learn more, we invite you to reach out and become a part of our compassionate community today.
