Protector of Animal Welfare (PAW)

Our Mission

Protectors of Animal Welfare (P.A.W.) is a non-profit, No-Kill animal shelter dedicated to providing a safe, healthy, and loving environment for animals until they find their perfect forever homes.

Our History

Established in 1997 by a small group of concerned citizens in Fort Madison, Iowa, we saw a community need and took action to fill it. Over the years, we have grown into a dedicated facility that cares for nearly 200 animals daily, helping thousands of lost, abandoned, or surrendered pets find new beginnings.

How We Work

We are a community-supported organization, running entirely on donations, memorials, and fundraisers to keep our doors open. Our shelter provides comprehensive care, ensuring every animal is fully vetted and treated with the love and attention they deserve while they wait for their new families.

Finding Your Perfect Companion

We pride ourselves on the thoughtful care we take to find the perfect companion for you and the perfect home for our animals. Because every animal has its own unique personality and history, we are committed to helping you understand your future best friend so your bond can last a lifetime.

Join Our Family

We invite you to visit us in Fort Madison to meet our adoptable dogs and cats during our public hours, seven days a week. Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in our spay/neuter programs, or want to support our facility through donations, we are grateful for your help in changing lives. Please reach out today to learn more about how you can make a difference for our four-legged friends.
