Our Mission
At the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS), we change lives by providing a safe haven and dedicated care for homeless cats and dogs. Our mission is to provide shelter and permanent placement for companion animals while promoting spay and neuter efforts and humane education throughout our community.
Our Story
Established as a network of foster homes in 2004, PALS opened our licensed shelter in 2007 following a generous anonymous donation. We are proud to operate a no-kill facility on seven acres south of Grinnell, Iowa, where we have helped over 3,000 cats and dogs find loving forever homes.
How We Operate
PALS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies entirely on private donations and receives no public funding. Our team is 100% committed to providing responsible veterinary care, including vaccinations, flea/tick control, and necessary medical procedures for every animal in our care. We work tirelessly 365 days a year to ensure our cats and dogs are healthy, happy, and ready for their next chapter.
