Our Mission
The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa is dedicated to promoting the ethical and humane treatment of all animals by providing compassionate care, housing, and rehabilitation for those in need. We are committed to fostering responsible pet ownership through community education and promoting the importance of spaying and neutering.
Our History and Community
Founded in 1987 by neighbors concerned about the plight of stray cats and dogs, our organization has grown from a small group of volunteers into a dedicated non-profit shelter. Today, we proudly serve Dickinson, Clay, Emmet, Palo Alto, O'Brien, and Osceola counties. Over the years, with the generous support of our community, we have built a facility that provides a safe haven for homeless pets while they wait for their forever families.
How We Care
Since 2011, we have operated as a no-kill shelter, ensuring that every animal in our care receives the time and attention they need. Our facility features dedicated spaces like the Chelsea Dog Shelter and the Weaver Cattery, and we prioritize the health and socialization of every resident. By partnering with organizations like Hill’s, we ensure that every animal enjoys high-quality, nutritious food during their stay.
