Our Mission
The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa is dedicated to promoting the ethical and humane treatment of all animals by providing compassionate care, housing, and rehabilitation. We strive to improve the lives of our animal residents while educating our community on the vital importance of spaying and neutering.
Our History
Our journey began in 1987, when a group of concerned neighbors united to help homeless cats and dogs. Over the decades, through the incredible generosity of our supporters, we have grown from a home-based volunteer network into a dedicated shelter facility in Milford, Iowa, officially designated as a no-kill organization since 2011.
How We Care
Today, our shelter facility provides a safe, welcoming environment for animals, featuring dedicated dog kennels, the Weaver Cattery, and specialized spaces for socialization and meet-and-greets. We are proud to partner with Hill’s Pet Nutrition to ensure our residents receive high-quality food, while our on-site surgery suite and monthly veterinary support provide essential medical care. Beyond our facility, we actively serve Dickinson, Clay, Emmet, Palo Alto, O'Brien, and Osceola counties through comprehensive programs like community outreach, foster care, and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
