10/24 - 🐾 THE POWER OF FOSTER: SUNSHINE IS STARTING TO SHINE! ☀️ Two weeks ago, Sunshine was so scared that she curled herself into the tightest little ball. Her heart raced, she wouldn't eat or drink while anyone was awake, and she was too frightened to even go to the bathroom. Last week, Sunshine moved into a foster home. Today, we get to share what patience, kindness, and a safe place can do. 💛 ☀️ Day 1:Sunshine was terrified. She curled into a tight ball, her heart raced, and she wouldn't eat, drink, or go potty while people were awake. ☀️ Day 2: A little breakthrough! She took an interest in the teenage boy in her foster home and allowed him to pet her. ☀️ Day 4: She finally ate and drank with people around, AND she went potty outside! She still stayed tucked into her nest of blankets in the kitchen, not yet ready to explore the house. ☀️ Day 6: Eating and drinking like a normal dog! She was still scared of just about everything, but she even shared a dried beef sandwich with her foster dad. We call that progress! ☀️ Day 7: Something special happened. Sunshine happily joined the after-work petting session with the other dogs. Even better? She started initiating pets herself! She also began peeking out of the kitchen to watch what was happening in the rest of the house. ☀️ Day 10: HOUSE-TRAINED! 🎉 She walks great on a leash, although the great outdoors is still pretty terrifying, and she's ready to head back inside as soon as possible. ☀️ Day 11: Sunshine met a small human! She was unsure, but she didn't flinch, growl, or hide. She also started stretching out on the kitchen floor instead of staying curled up in a tight little ball. ☀️ Day 14:THE ZOOMIES HAPPENED! 🎉🐕 Sunshine finally ran around with excitement, and she came OUT OF THE KITCHEN to ask for pets! Is Sunshine completely comfortable with the world yet? Not even close. She still has a long way to go, and there will likely be days when progress feels slow. But look at how far she has come in just two weeks! This is the power of foster care. It's giving a scared dog the time and space to feel safe. It's celebrating the first bite of food, the first tail wag, the first time they ask for affection, and yes, even the first zoomies. It's understanding that trust cannot be rushed, but it can grow when a dog finally feels safe enough to try. We are so grateful to her foster family for giving her the patience and gentle encouragement she needs to blossom. Every dog deserves the chance to feel safe, and fostering helps make that possible. 💛 THIS is why foster matters. This is why we keep showing up.
