Our Mission
Animal Welfare Friends is dedicated to helping cats and dogs in need through compassionate shelter, veterinary care, adoption education, and community outreach. We strive to provide every pet with a peaceful, safe, and healthy life while working to end the euthanization of abandoned and neglected animals.
Our History
Our journey began in the summer of 2002 when two stray dogs wandered onto the property of a couple in Oxford Mills. Since our formal establishment in March 2003, we have grown into a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the homeless animals of Eastern and Northeastern Iowa and beyond.
How We Care
We operate as a no-kill shelter located just north of Monticello, Iowa, where we prioritize the well-being of every animal in our care. Our facility features comfortable amenities, including two free-roam cat rooms with large windows and both indoor and outdoor access for our dogs. We are committed to maintaining a high standard of care through professional medical oversight and dedicated support from our board and volunteers.
