SIOUXLAND HUMANE SOCIETY
Our Mission
The Siouxland Humane Society is dedicated to providing programs and services that promote the humane treatment of animals in our community. We are committed to finding forever homes for every adoptable pet in our care.
A Legacy of Compassion
Since our founding in 1889, we have evolved from a small group of concerned citizens into a state-of-the-art facility serving the needs of animals and their families. Today, we stand as Siouxland’s only open-admission, full-service shelter, reflecting over a century of growth and community dedication.
How We Care
Our work goes far beyond sheltering, as we actively support the community through spay/neuter assistance, pet food banks, and educational programs. As a nonprofit organization that operates without city, state, or federal funding, we rely on the support of donors to maintain our high standards of care. We are proud to be a space where homeless pets receive the compassion and attention they deserve while awaiting their new families.
Your Partner in Adoption
We believe that adopting a pet is the start of a beautiful, lifelong partnership. Our knowledgeable staff is here to help you find the perfect match, taking the time to understand your lifestyle and family needs. We encourage you to meet with our adoptable pets in our visitation rooms or outdoor courtyard to help ensure a successful, lasting connection.
Find Your New Best Friend
Ready to meet your new companion? We invite you to browse our available animals or visit our shelter at 1015 Tri-View Avenue in Sioux City. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or support our programs, we look forward to welcoming you into our community of animal lovers.

11/4 - Like Looking In A Mirror! Okay, somebody has some explaining to do around here! Blanca and Mathe! Two girls who look so much alike, we've been questioning whether there's a family reunion happening right here in our dog kennels! Seriously, same looks, same expressions, and kennels right next to each other. We're about two double takes away from ordering a doggy DNA test! Are they mother and daughter? Not that we know of! But we're not entirely convinced someone isn't keeping a family secret around here. All jokes aside, both of these lovely ladies have been waiting for homes since the end of August and first of Sept. As much as we love this little look-alike mystery, we'd love even more to see them both find homes of their own! So, what do you think? Mother and daughter, long-lost relatives, or just one heck of a coincidence?! #siouxlandhumanesociety #adopt #doglookalike #rescuedogsofinstagram #shelterdog

10/29 - We'll Show You Our Kitties If You Show Us Yours! The dogs have been soaking up a whole lot of attention this month, but today we're handing the spotlight over to our feline friends! It's National Cat Day, and our shelter cats would like to remind everyone that they're pretty darn special too! We've rounded up some of our adorable, goofy, sweet, and occasionally judgmental residents to show off for their big day. Now it's your turn! We want to see YOUR kitties! Hop on over to our Facebook page and flood the comments on our National Cat Day post with pictures of your furry little house panthers. Whether they're sweet little angels or tiny household terrors, we want to see them all! Happy National Cat Day from all of us here at the Siouxland Humane Society! #nationalcatday #adopt #catsofinstagram #sheltercat #siouxcity

10/25 - What a SPOOKTACULAR day at the shelter! Our Halloween event was a success, and we have so many people to thank! From everyone who decorated a kennel to those who stopped by to visit, vote, and join in the fun, THANK YOU for making the day so special! And the best part? We had some AMAZING adoptions! Not only did we open up some much-needed space in our dog wards, but we also got to watch some of our longtime residents FINALLY walk out those front doors with families of their very own! That's what it's all about! Now for the moment you've been waiting for... The votes have been tallied, and our decorated kennel contest winner is... @bedandbiscuitdog with their Beetlejuice-themed kennel! Congratulations! As our winner, Bed & Biscuit will have their name proudly displayed on one of our dog kennels for an entire year! We had so many creative kennels this year, and we loved seeing all the time, effort, and imagination that went into each one! Thank you again to everyone who helped make our Halloween event such a fun and memorable day. Between the incredible decorations, wonderful visitors, and all those happy adoption endings, we'd say this Halloween was one for the books!

10/21 - We are FULL! And we don't mean almost full. We mean FULL! Every kennel. Every space. Every spot we have available in our dog wards is occupied. And the hardest part? We know there are still dogs out there who will need us tomorrow. And the next day. And the day after that. But right now, we have nowhere to put them. Behind every kennel door is a dog waiting for someone to choose them. Some have been here weeks. Many have been waiting for months! Every day they watch people walk by, hoping that maybe today will be their turn to never walk back into their kennels. We need our community now more than ever. With our Halloween celebration happening this weekend, we're hoping a little Halloween magic can help us open some kennel doors and send these dogs HOME! NOW THROUGH SUNDAY, OCT. 25TH, ALL DOGS 6 MONTHS AND UP HAVE AN ADOPTION FEE OF JUST $31. We're not asking anyone to make a rushed decision. Adoption is a lifelong commitment, and finding the right fit matters. But if you've been thinking about adding a dog to your family, please come and meet them! Every adoption means one more space available for the next dog who needs us. We can't make more room. But together, we CAN make a difference. Please come see us! Share this post. Tell your friends. Help us get these dogs seen. Our kennels are full. Our hearts are heavy. And we're counting on our community to help us change that. Let's get these dogs HOME! #adopt #siouxcity #dogsofinstagram #rescuedog

10/17 - Pebbles has life figured out. This girl is in absolutely NO hurry to do anything. And quite frankly, we think she might be onto something. Pebbles is a firm believer in slowing down and enjoying the little things in life. A nice breeze blowing through her face? She’ll stand there and soak it all in. Someone offering scratches and attention? Well, you might as well clear your schedule because she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. But don’t let her peaceful, laid-back lifestyle fool you. This girl has a little bull in her too! Pebbs likes to make sure everyone knows exactly where she’s been. How? By kicking those back feet into high gear and sending grass flying across the yard. We’re not sure if she’s marking her territory or just taking the BULL in bulldog a little too seriously. Either way, she looks like a tiny bull getting ready to charge. Except, of course, at Pebbles speed. We’re convinced she has absolutely no idea how entertaining she is. She’s just out there doing Pebbles things while the rest of us stand around watching her like she’s the best show in town. We don’t know what goes on inside that adorable bulldog head of hers, but whatever it is, we hope she never changes. 10/10 - Pooh Bear doesn’t ask for snacks. He stares. Hard. Then he gets a little closer. Then a little closer... Until eventually you realize this was never a request. It was a demand. And listen, this boy only has one eye, but somehow that one eye can apply an impressive amount of pressure. He knows what he wants. He knows where the snacks are. And most importantly, he knows exactly which staff members are going to cave. Does he have some staff completely wrapped around his little paw? Yes. It’s me. I’m some staff. I fold under pressure and Poobins knows it. And yes, he gets his snackies every time. Like there was ever another possible outcome. 😂 #siouxcity #adopt #sheltercat #bestestboy #catsofinstagram
