Heart of Jackson Humane Society, Inc.
Our Mission
Heart of Jackson Humane Society is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty, the relief of animal suffering, and the promotion of humane education. We strive to be a compassionate resource for animals in need within our community.
A History of Compassion
Founded in 1975 by a group of concerned citizens, our organization spent three decades serving animals through the dedication of volunteers before opening our physical shelter doors in 2005. Since that milestone, we have proudly provided a safe haven for over 2,000 dogs in Jackson County. We are honored to continue the legacy of those who first recognized the need for a protective voice for our local animals.
How We Help
Our shelter facility, located in Holton, Kansas, serves as a hub of care where we prioritize the well-being of every resident dog. Beyond shelter operations, we actively support our community through programs like microchipping, pet food assistance, and spay/neuter services for both pets and outdoor cats via our Trap-Neuter-Return program. We are committed to fostering a healthy environment for all animals, ensuring they receive the care and respect they deserve.
Finding Your Perfect Match
Our goal is to create joyful, lifelong partnerships between dogs and their new families. We take a thoughtful, individualized approach to adoption, carefully reviewing applications to ensure that every placement is a great match for both the animal and the household. Because we want to set every dog and family up for success, we prioritize open communication and transparent matching throughout the adoption process.
