ACARF is dedicated to providing a safe, loving haven for lost, abandoned, or unwanted dogs and cats in our community. We strive to help every animal recover, thrive, and find their perfect, permanent home.
Founded by a grassroots group in rural La Harpe, Kansas, ACARF was established to provide hope for vulnerable animals in southeast Kansas. Since opening in 2010, we have operated as a nonprofit, no-kill shelter entirely independent of government funding.
We are a dedicated team committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of pets in need. While we operate a shelter facility, our work extends beyond our walls as we constantly coordinate with other reputable rescues to ensure every animal finds the path to a better life. We rely on the support of our community, including our Second Chance store, to provide essential medical care, food, and comfort for our animals while they wait for their forever families.
Finding a new best friend is a rewarding journey, and we prioritize careful matching to ensure the best situation for both you and your future pet. We believe in transparency and preparation, which is why every adoption includes vaccinations, microchipping, spay or neuter surgery, and a free month of pet insurance. We look forward to guiding you through our application process so you can welcome a lifetime of love and happiness into your home.
We are open to the public Monday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm—no appointment necessary. We invite you to visit us in La Harpe to meet our wonderful adoptable dogs and cats, or reach out to us at adoptions@acarf.org to begin your adoption journey today. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of animals who need us most.
