The Pawnee County Humane Society, Inc. is dedicated to preventing animal suffering and cruelty through community education, the promotion of responsible pet ownership, and a firm commitment to ending the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals in our county.
In 2005, a group of concerned citizens united to address the urgent issue of pet homelessness in Larned. We began as a volunteer-driven steering committee that successfully saved hundreds of lives by establishing a network of foster homes, before incorporating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and opening our current shelter facility in 2011.
Our work is powered by the dedication of our volunteers and the support of local veterinary clinics, ensuring every animal receives care and medical attention. While we maintain a shelter environment at 1406 M5 Road, we remain deeply committed to our roots of community collaboration, including trap-neuter-return programs for feral cats and local advocacy for animal welfare laws.
We believe in making meaningful matches that last a lifetime. Our adoption process is designed to be personal and thoughtful, encouraging potential adopters to spend time with their future companions to ensure a perfect fit for every family.
Whether you are looking to adopt a new best friend, volunteer your time, or support our work through donations and shopping, we invite you to be part of our mission.
